Soft Dhakai Jamdani Olive Green

Bengal's weavers have always given their border patterns names, hathi for elephant, tara for star, phool for flower, each one a recognised motif handed down through generations of the craft. This saree carries the hathi.

The body is a soft olive green, covered edge to edge in small woven florals, pink, navy, white, and coral scattered densely enough to read as texture, the classic Jamdani butidar layout where each tiny motif is added by hand during the weave itself. It's the pallu that shifts into something bolder: a coral-pink ground carrying a row of stylised elephants in a deeper rose, marching in profile the way the motif has traditionally been woven into Bengal borders, paired with a slim paisley figure at the edge and a warm salmon-striped border running the saree's full length.

Elephants have carried meaning in Indian textiles well beyond decoration, read as symbols of strength and prosperity for centuries, which is likely why this particular border pattern has outlasted plenty of others in Bengal's weaving tradition.

It's a saree that keeps two of Jamdani's signatures in play at once: the quiet, dense floral field, and a pallu bold enough to be the whole point.
